Privacy policy
What we collect, why we collect it, who else touches it, and what you can ask us to do with it.
1. Who is responsible for your data
Big Vision Consultancy and Marketing, trading as The Chairman, is the data fiduciary for personal data collected through www.thechairmans.in. This policy is written to meet the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and the Information Technology (Reasonable Security Practices and Procedures and Sensitive Personal Data or Information) Rules, 2011.

2. What we collect
Account details you give us
Your name, email address, phone number, and a password, which we store only as a bcrypt hash and never in readable form.
Profile details you choose to add
Profile photo, company, headline, short bio, website, LinkedIn URL, skills, member type, and what you are open to. All of these are optional, and everything you put in your profile is visible to other members.
What you post and send
Posts, comments, reactions, bookmarks, event RSVPs, connection requests, direct messages, group messages, and any report or block you submit.
Technical data
IP address, browser and device type, pages viewed, and timestamps. Collected through server logs and product analytics to keep the service secure and to understand which features are used.
Membership records
Your plan, the date your term ends, and your membership request history.
3. Payment information
We never see or store your card number, CVV, UPI PIN, net banking credentials, or bank account details. When card payments are enabled, they are handled entirely by a PCI-DSS compliant payment gateway on its own systems. All we keep is the reference number, amount, date, and status of your payment, which we need for accounting and support.
4. Why we use it
- To create and run your account and verify your email address.
- To provide the service you paid for: the feed, the directory, the communities, events, and messaging.
- To send service email you cannot opt out of while you hold an account, such as verification, password resets, and membership status.
- To send notifications about activity on your account, which you can turn off in settings.
- To keep the platform safe: rate limiting, spam and fraud prevention, and handling reports and blocks.
- To meet legal, tax, and accounting obligations.
We process this data on the basis of your consent, given when you create an account, and where processing is necessary to deliver the service you have asked for. You can withdraw consent at any time by closing your account.
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers.
5. Who else processes your data
We use the service providers below. Each one processes data only on our instructions and only as far as its job requires.
- Vercel: Website hosting, serving, and file storage for uploaded images
- MongoDB Atlas: The database holding accounts, profiles, and content
- Resend: Delivery of verification, password reset, and notification email
- Pusher: Real-time delivery of messages and notifications
- Upstash: Rate limiting, to stop abuse of sign-in and sign-up
- PostHog: Product analytics on how pages and features are used
Some of these providers operate servers outside India, so your data may be processed abroad under contractual safeguards. We will also disclose data where a law, court, or government authority validly requires it.
6. Cookies and analytics
We set a session cookie so you stay signed in, and a small preference cookie that remembers your light or dark theme. Both are necessary for the site to work. Product analytics record page views and feature usage in order to improve the service. We do not run advertising cookies or third-party ad trackers. Blocking cookies in your browser will stop you being able to sign in.
7. What other members can see
Your name, photo, and profile fields are visible to other signed-in members, as are your posts and comments. Direct messages are visible to the people in that conversation. You can make yourself undiscoverable in the directory and turn off direct messages from your profile settings. Your email address and phone number are never shown to other members.
8. How long we keep it
- Account and profile data: for as long as your account is open, then up to 90 days after you close it, so the deletion can be reversed if it was a mistake.
- Posts and messages: content you posted publicly inside the community may remain visible in the thread it belongs to, shown as from a removed member, unless you ask us to delete it.
- Payment and invoice records: 8 years, as required for tax and accounting.
- Security and access logs: up to 180 days, as required under the Information Technology Act.
9. Your rights
Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 you may:
- Ask what personal data of yours we hold and how it is used.
- Ask us to correct or complete anything inaccurate.
- Ask us to erase your data, subject to records we must keep by law.
- Withdraw your consent and close your account.
- Nominate someone to exercise these rights on your behalf if you die or become incapacitated.
- Complain to the Data Protection Board of India.
Write to «support@thechairmans.in» to exercise any of these. We respond within 2 working days and complete verified requests within 30 days.
10. Security
Traffic is encrypted with HTTPS. Passwords are stored as bcrypt hashes. Sessions are signed tokens that can be invalidated. Sign-in, sign-up, and password reset are rate limited. Access to the production database is restricted to the operator of the business. No system is perfectly secure, so if a breach affects your data we will notify you and the Data Protection Board as the law requires.
11. Children
The service is for people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect data about children. If you believe a child has created an account, tell us and we will remove it.
12. Changes to this policy
We will update this page when our practices change, and the effective date at the top will change with it. Material changes are emailed to members at their registered address.
